We envisioned Charmander to be big and squishy - in a warm and fuzzy sort of way. Specifically made with little children in mind, we designed Charmander to be huggably soft and friendly. We were not concerned with making a dead-on accurate, mascot-quality costume for Charmander's debut at the US-Japan Expo in Los Angeles. Instead, we went for a soft and frumpy silhouette to compliment the "hard" understructure of Poliwhirl. In December 1999, we were invited to participate at the Scottish Christmas Walk in Alexandria, Virginia. "Char-Ramsay" and Pika Sweet joined Clan Ramsay in the parade. We enjoy wearing these costumes and the response has been quite favorable, especially with children. Having kids scream CHARMANDER!!!" or "PIKACHU!!! from 100 yards away (when they see us), and believing that we REALLY are Pokémon makes us feel great. Children have the wonderful ability to suspend their disbelief. We later decided to perform a Western spoof with Charmander and Poliwhirl at AnimeExpo 2000. We participated in the AX00 Masquerade as a noncompetitive, exhibition only entry and had fun providing an entertaining show for the audience. "Showdown at the Poké Corral" was a silly opportunity to exhibit these large costumes. "El Whirl" wore a blue cowboy hat, purple confetti-foil dot chaps with fringe and blue water drops, cross/draw kiddie pistols (for trick shooting) and Poké bandolier. "Sheriff Char" was sportin' a yellow foam cowboy hat, moo-print bandanna, aluminum foil star and kiddie shotgun.
